Henry Dow Bowen “H.D.,” passed away Saturday, February 14, 2015 at his home in Kingsland, Ga. He was born on January 24, 1929 in Tattnall County, Ga. He was preceded in death by his father Arthur Bowen, his mothers, Janie and Jennie Bowen.
He was a Tattnall County High School graduate. He joined the U.S Army Air Corps in June of 1947 and was a beginning member of the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate military arm in September of 1947. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he was in retail management, where he met his beloved wife, Loretta Irene Smith, in Charleston, South Carolina. He returned to his home town of Glennville, GA., where he lived for many years with Irene. He later moved to be close to his children in Kingsland, Ga. where he spent his final days with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, that spent his entire life with God and family being his commitment and focus in life. He loved people with an unconditional love. He spent his retirement life visiting friends, and family. He loved spending his time after retirement visiting the elderly at the Glennville Nursing Home in his home town. He loved sports, fishing and the beach. His favorite past time was being with his family. He was saved and gave his life to Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Irene, of Kingsland, Ga.; his three children Robert (Patricia) Bowen, Richard Bowen, and Susan Moore; his 10 grandchildren, Christopher Daniel, Michael Paul, Michael Aaron, Angela Michelle, Jennie Nicole, Rebekah Erin, Robert Neal, Dana Marene, Brittany Leigh, Christopher Alexander and his 14 great – grandchildren.
The Celebration of Life Services will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 from 6-8 PM at the Harbor Worship Center, 140 Colerain Road, Kingsland, Ga. Pastor James Ackerman , Jr. is officiating services. The burial and graveside service will held in a private ceremony with family at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida at a later date.
