Calvin Eugene HarrisMr. Calvin Eugene Harris, age 69 of Kingsland, Ga. passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, November 14, 2014 in Fernandina Beach, Fl.

Mr. Harris was born July 27, 1945 in Anderson, SC to the late James Claude and Eva Iola Yeargin Harris.

Mr. Harris was a high school graduate of Seneca High School in Seneca, South Carolina, where he played football for the Bobcats and was also a bus driver. After high school, Mr. Harris became a proud member of the US Navy entering Submarine Service in 1964 and retiring from active duty at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in 1995. One of the submarines that he proudly served aboard was the USS George Bancroft, which is now a part of the submarine monument at the entrance of Kings Bay NSB. Much of his memorabilia from his service days was donated to the Submarine Museum in St. Marys, Georgia. Mr. Harris had a green thumb and enjoyed vegetable gardening. He relished sharing his many harvests with family and friends over the years. From his playing days, Mr. Harris was very keen on football. From the Camden County Wildcats, of which he often attended their games locally and when they went to Atlanta, to being an original Jacksonville Jaguars season ticket holder, he loved to be in the stands cheering them on to victory. He will be greatly missed by both his family and friends.

Mr. Harris is survived by his beloved wife Gloria Harris; his daughters, Gloria Wombolt of Jacksonville, Fl. and Rhonda (Ricky) Harper of Fernandina Beach, Fl.; his sons, James (Justine) Wombolt, of Waverly, Ga. and Tim Wombolt, of Kingsland, Ga.; his sister, Jane (Ted) Green of Greer, SC.; his brothers, Ned (Linda) Harris, of McKinney, TX, Marshal Harris, Earl Harris, and Chester (Shirley) Harris, all of Anderson, SC,; his grandchildren, Steven (Shayna) Aubenque, Brian Aubenque, Duane Harper, Joshua Wombolt, Zachery Wombolt, Hunter Wombolt, Holly Wombolt, and Heather Wombolt; and his great-grandchildren, Garrett Harper, Steven Aubenque, Jr., and Aurora Jane Aubenque.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in passing by his daughter, Felicia Jane Harris; his sister, Johnnie Lois Decker; and his brothers, James “Nat” Harris, Henry Harris, William “Bill” Harris, Frank Harris and Walt Harris.

Calling hours for Mr. Harris will be from 1 PM to 2 PM Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the funeral home. Services will follow the visitation at 2 PM in the Wainwright Chapel with Pastor Mike Sanes presiding. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, GA on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 2 PM.
