Mr. John Thomas Sweigart, age 58, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at his residence in Woodbine, GA.
Mr. Sweigart was born on March 16, 1956 in Dallas Texas to the late George Christian Sweigart, Jr. and Astrid Sylvia Wister Sweigart. As a child growing up in a military family he lived in Texas, Long Beach, CA., Hawaii, and San Diego, CA. He was the youngest child in his family. Mr. Sweigart was active in boy scouts most of his adolescent years and his family enjoyed camping and many outdoor activities. He graduated in 1973 from Morse High School in San Diego and then attended Grossmont College in El Cajon, CA.
Mr. Sweigart lost his father in 1974 and later his mother in 1988. He cherished the life lessons of patience and understanding that his father and mother had taught him through the years and included that philosophy into his own life.
Mr. Sweigart joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country proudly for 5 years. Prior to his health issues, John was a flatbed truck driver for Werner Enterprises for 21 years and was a mentor for many in the trucking industry. He has always had a little mischievous side to compliment a great sense of humor. He always had compassion for others, and a love of animals.
His wife Melva said of him, “John was very gentle, with a laid back attitude and never had a temper. He was a good husband and father. We were a team. When John got to the point where speaking was very difficult, we communicated with just a look. We were that close. I will miss him so much.” Mr. Sweigart will be missed greatly by his friends and family.
Mr. Sweigart is survived by his beloved wife, Melva Sweigart of Woodbine, GA.; his daughters, Amber Dean of Duluth, MN. and Crystal (Marlin) Goodman of Warner Robins, GA.; his son, Jason T. (Jennifer) Sweigart of Millbrook, AL; his step-sons, Jamie (Christie) John of Browntown, GA., Justin Johns (Patrick Martin) of Harriett’s Bluff, GA., and Travis St. John of Auburn, AL. ; his sister, Cynthia S.
