Mrs. Audrey Mae Chaney, age 76 of St. Marys, GA passed away early Saturday, March 15th, 2014 at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL.
Mrs. Chaney was born on September 22nd, 1937 in Screven, GA. She was the only daughter of eight children of the late Willie Owen and Mary Hester Johnson Griffin.
Audrey and her husband, Alton, moved to Saint Marys in 1956. She was employed by Saint Mary’s Kraft Bag for 10 years and afterward she applied her love for sewing in her fabric and tailoring business known as “The Fabric Center”. She was known for her cooking skills and was constantly called upon for her recipes. She had a love of travel and managed to visit all the states except for Alaska. She demonstrated how to be a loving wife and mother and a doting grandmother. Audrey “Nanny” as she was known to extended family, became a friendly face to everyone she met.
Mrs. Chaney is survived by her beloved husband, Alton Chaney of Saint Marys GA; her sons, David Chaney and wife Faith of Kingsland GA, and Keith Chaney and partner Noel Morata of San Francisco CA; her daughters, Michelle Carle and husband Rich of Jacksonville FL, and Heather Christy and husband Craig of Saint Marys GA.; her brothers, Tom Griffin and Lester Griffin of the Orlando FL area, her seven grandsons, Jay Galloway, Joshua Douglas, Jackson Douglas, Dalton Chaney, Tristan Christy, Dylan Christy and Logan Christy, her one granddaughter, Breanne Holmes and husband Terrance of Kingsland, GA; and also her two great granddaughters, Braylee Holmes and Anslee Holmes.
Calling hours for Mrs. Chaney will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, March 18th, 2014 at Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland, GA. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, March 19th, 2014 at the Westside Baptist Church in St. Marys, GA with Pastor George Anderson presiding. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, GA.
