He is the son of the late James Cannie and Minnie Leigh Peterson Outlaw, Sr. The family shared of him “Our daddy was a WWII US Army veteran, going into Normandy, France on D Day + 5. He later was an employee of Gilman Paper Company for over 35 years, working as a tour foreman on number one and two paper machines. He was an avid deer hunter and loved to go fishing. His story always was, he would take you fishing next spring, but next spring never came. He loved to go fox hunting and hear the full cry of the hound dogs.

He always had a garden and plenty of vegetables to share. He raised cows and had an ox named Big Red. Big Red was popular at local parades and birthday parties. Tommy Smith was in the Georgia House of Representatives and presented a resolution on the floor of the house honoring Big Red for his service to the community. Papa, as he was known to the grandchildren would tell them a story if they would agree to sit still. He loved to pull jokes on the children. A favorite time for him was when his friends came to see him to talk about the good old days. Papa will be greatly missed by the family.”
