Roy Weldon Fletcher

Roy Weldon FletcherMr. Roy Weldon Fletcher, age 88 of Eagle Blvd in Kingsland, passed away quietly on the early afternoon of Wednesday, May 8th, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Fletcher was born on June 16th, 1924 in Berkeley, West Virginia. He is the son of the late Roy Rice and Pauline St. Clair Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher is a World War Two veteran of The European Theatre of Operations. He served in Company B, 309th Engineer Combat Battalion from 1943 to 1946. They were tasked with clearing explosive obstacles and laying bridges in advance of ground assaults and were usually under fire. After the war, Mr. Fletcher earned his GED and became an instructor at Fairchild Aircraft. In 1950 he started with United Airlines as an A&P mechanic and retired in 1982 with 32 years of service. Mr. Fletcher was an avid outdoors man, who loved to fish, crab and hunt. He loved to travel the US and attended many bluegrass music festivals. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him best.

Mr. Fletcher is survived by his wife, Esther A. Lankford Fletcher; his daughter and her spouse, Deana Marie F. and Vincent Barone of Kingsland; his son, James Fletcher of Manassas, Va.; his grandchildren, Jennifer and Jim Fletcher of Manassas, Va, and his great grandchildren Jessica Barone and Kaylee Dodson.

Funeral services will be held privately by the family in Pleasantview Memorial Gardens in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
