Mrs. Wanda Bargeron Bennett, of Margaret Street in St. Marys, Ga., passed away on Monday evening, March 25th, 2013 at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, Ga.
Mrs. Bennett was born on June 4th, 1948 in Ware County, Georgia. She is the daughter of the late Henry “HC” Carlos and Jewel Robinson Bargeron. Her son David writes how difficult it is to speak on behalf of his siblings, but that he would try to represent the shared feelings of love, devotion and admiration they all felt towards their mother. The words that come to mind include: independence, courage, generosity, sensitivity, integrity, dignity, and indeed the word ‘Life’ itself! For few people they have ever known, lived life as fully, or as well as their mother did. Her generosity with her time, her energy, her advice, and in so many other ways, provided invaluable support to a remarkable number of people.
Her sense of dignity was never so tested, nor so well demonstrated, as in the final weeks and days of her life. Among the other words which come to mind to describe her character is her uncompromising integrity, and honesty, which have proven to be among the most important guides for David’s professional and personal life. He furthers that life forces us all into positions of compromise and presents challenges to our honesty and our integrity. He observed his mother rise and meet those challenges one after the other throughout her life with courage, toughness and a sense of right and wrong, which was awe inspiring to him and others.
As a parent and a friend, their mother had an extraordinary ability to make each of them feel stronger and more confident in their own identity, giving them their own sense of independence and mental toughness, which David shares, has been such an asset in so many ways in his own life. David ends with the thought of how he will always be extremely proud to call himself the son of Wanda Bennett and will rest of the family. She will live in the memories and hearts of those who loved her best forever.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by her children; Ann Garza of Dover Bluff, Ga. David Bennett of McKinney, Texas and Jimmy L. Bennett of Madill, OK.; her sister, Pamela Bargeron of Prescott, Arkansas; her grandchildren, Ashley, Amber and Landon; and her cousin, Shirley Nichols.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Bennett was preceded in passing by her husband, Robert J. Bennett, and her brothers, Joe Henry and Wayne Bargeron.
Mrs. Bennett was privately laid to rest next to her husband in Oak Gove Cemetery in St. Marys, Ga.
The family shared that Mrs. Bennett would be very pleased and honored to see that your continued support, well wishes, and prayers, which were so valuable to her in her final weeks, be continued to help healing the broken hearts of her family.
