Ms. Eva M. Byrd Thomas, age 52 of Harriett’s Bluff Road in Woodbine passed away late Friday evening, January 25, 2013 at her residence.
Ms. Thomas was born on April 5, 1960 in Fernandina Beach, Fl. Ms. Thomas loved fishing and spending time outdoors but her greatest love/joy was being a mother to her children and a Nanny to her grandchildren. She is the daughter of the late Tom Rexell and the late Geneva Olive (Brown) Byrd.
Ms. Thomas is survived by her children, Jeannie (Keith) Pierce of Woodbine, Jackie (Brian) Smith of Folkston, Jack (Michelle) Foskey of Woodbine and Tina Miller of Woodbine; her sisters, Mary (Travis) Sowell of Springfield, Mo. and Trubee (Pete) Evatt of Yulee, Fl.; her brothers, Dewey Byrd of Aiken, SC and Charles Byrd of Kingsland. She has five grandchildren, Kody and Kaleb Pierce, Kenzie Miller, Alexis Foskey and Alyssa Smith. A lifelong friend to her was Belinda Cook. Ms. Thomas was preceded in death by her siblings, Faye Cate, Elizabeth Bower, Pat Barnard, Lolita Chastain, Tommy Byrd, Robert Byrd and John Byrd. She has several nieces and nephews, with many of them who looked to her as their second mom.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 PM Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held graveside at 1 pm Monday, January 28, 2013 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Saint Marys with Pastor Keith Lloyd presiding. Honorary pallbearers will be Mitchell Green, Phillip Byrd, Marvin Green, Dewey Bower, David Foskey and Eric Horne.
The family requests for any memorial contributions in her honor be made to the Hospice of the Golden Isles/ 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, Ga. 31525.
