Mr. John Lee Horne, Jr., age 82 of Magnolia Manor on St. Simons Island, Ga. and a longtime resident of Camden County, passed away on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 5th, 2012.
Mr. Horne was born in McRae, Ga. on August 10th, 1930. He is the son of the late John Lee and Gussie Mae Kilgore Horne, Sr. His family said of him, For many years daddy worked for Russell Chevrolet, Gilman Paper Company and finally AJM Packaging. He was a mechanic/automotive repairman. He maintained his own automotive repair shop in the downtown historic St Marys area. His ability to turn a wrench benefited many people in the Camden area who could always count on repairs to their car at little to no cost. His children were always driving the latest repair projects and could always be found in the garage behind his home on Stable Alley helping with the next paint job. Daddy was a proud man who never hesitated to stop and help someone in need. If you asked he would even give you the shirt off his back. He was a great husband, father and friend to any in need. He will be greatly missed by all who came in contact with him.
Mr. Horne is survived by his children and their spouses, Mary and Adam Hall of St. Simons Island, and John L. and Wendy Horne, III of White Oak; his brother and his wife, Edward and Geraldine Horne of Eastman; and his grandchildren, Kayla Marie and Cheyanna Nykkol Horne.
Beside his parents, Mr. Horne was preceded in passing by his beloved wife, Juanita Lee Townsend Horne; his sister, Pearl Barber; and his brothers Bud Lee and Vernon Horne.
Calling hours for Mr. Horne will be from 6 to 8 pm, Friday September 7th, 2012 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held graveside in Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys starting at 11 am, Saturday, September 8th, 2012 with Pastor Darrell Joiner presiding.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s disease.
