Mr. Charles Robert Taylor, Jr. age 62 of Woodhaven Drive in Kingsland passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, August 14, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Taylor was born in Baltimore, Maryland on September 22nd, 1949. He is the son of the late Charles R. and Helen Frances Wiley Taylor, Sr. After high school, Mr. Taylor joined the US Navy and proudly served his country for over 20 years as a navy diver. After retiring from the service, Charlie opened Divers Den in Mariner’s Landing and owned, and operated Land and Sea Sporting Goods on HWY 40 in Kingsland. He also retired from King’s Bay Naval Submarine Base, where he worked as Transportation Manager, Golf Course Maintenance manager, Recycling Manager, and Auto Skills Manager. He also owned and operated Charlie’s Garage and Towing in Folkston, Ga. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him best.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Ann Taylor; his daughters, Melissa (Charles) Davis and Hope Bowman, both of Douglasville, Ga., Suni Taylor of St. Marys and Crystal (Jeff) Griffin of Kingsland; and his grandchildren, Michael Bowman of Hamilton, Ohio, Holly Davis of Douglasville, and Gabriel and Lance Griffin of Kingsland.
Along with his parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in passing by his sister, Shirley House.
The family will receive friends starting at 10 am Saturday, August 18th, 2012 in the historic sanctuary of the Kingsland First United Methodist Church. A celebration of Mr. Taylor’s life will follow there at 11 am with Pastor Chip Strickland presiding over the service.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made in his honor to the church’s food pantry.
