Carroll Edwin ‘Hoppy” Manning, age 73 of the Bullhead Bluff community passed away in late evening hours of Monday, July 16th, 2012 at his residence after a courageous fight with cancer.
Mr. Manning was born in Bullhead Bluff on March 30th, 1939. He is the son of the late Damon Britt and Bertha Bennett Manning. He earned a degree in firefighting from Texas A&M and a mechanical engineering degree while working at Union Carbide. He retired from Saint John’s River Power Park as a maintenance mechanical manager. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. When you couldn’t find him at home all you had to do was look in the woods or the river. He was a great man who loved his family. He was a wonderful husband, dad, and pop. He was a man with a lot of knowledge and wisdom, not only to his family, but also to his co-workers and friends. He never met a stranger and he found good in everyone. He will truly be missed and is loved by all.
Mr. Manning is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary Alice Manning; his daughter, Lisa Rena (Russell) Galloway of Jacksonville, TX.; his son, Mark Edwin (Trish) Manning and James Britt Manning, all of Bullhead Bluff; his brother, Clifford (Theresia) of Woodbine; his grandchildren, Tabbatha, Allison (Matt), Devin, Alicia (Jeremy) Aaron, Rene’, Travis, Shana and Brandon; and his great grandchildren, Dylan, Ciera, Alynna, Zoey, Luke, Grayson, Haley, Raylen, Harley, Jones and Dayla and his numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Mr. Manning was preceded in passing by his siblings, Nettie Marr, Bernice Reed, Rufus Wayne Cooler, Ford D. Manning, Colby C. Manning, Owen Richard Manning, William A. Manning, and Newton A. Manning.
Calling hours for Mr. Manning will be from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, July 18th, 2012 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held graveside at 11 AM Thursday, July 19th, 2012 in Manning Cemetery at Bullhead Bluff with Pastor Chip Strickland presiding. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Manning, Brandon Manning, Devin Jones, Charles Happoldt, Brandon Westerfield and Zach Manning.
