Ms. Tonya Marie Wiggins, age 48 of Kingsland, passed away at her residence, surrounded by her family and friends, in the early morning hours of Monday, October 31, 2011.
Ms. Wiggins was born in Jacksonville, Fl. on March 17th, 1963. She is the daughter of the late James Carrel Pope and Diane Nasworthy Murray.
Tonya spent the first half of her life in Ware County, where her light shown brightly. She was very involved in Deenwood Baptist Church, which helped shape her walk with Jesus Christ. At age 28, she was called to move to Camden County with her family.
Once in Camden County, she began working with the health department, where she assisted people in need. When her boys began school, she followed in tow. She worked in all areas of the school from the front office to the classroom, as well as all levels in between. The majority of time in the school system was spent in the cafeteria feeding the students of Camden County from the kindergartners to the seniors. She ended up becoming “mom” to countless students. Her last days in the school system, she was best known as Princess Tonya, who assisted young students in developing a love for reading.
Six years ago Tonya transitioned from the school system to Chick-fil-A. This is where Tonya found her calling. Marketing was where she blossomed. Princess and pirate nights took children to other worlds for Family Fun Nights, that continues with Tonya in mind.
Her life will be remembered for her smile and enthusiasm for people. Even through her struggle with cancer, she inspired people to share their life experiences to help those around them. She always stated that it wasn’t her strength, but her Savior’s. She will continually be remembered through a foundation that will be established in her honor.
Ms. Wiggins is survived by her beloved sons, Joshua Wiggins and Jared Wiggins of Kingsland; her precious mother, Diane Murray of Waycross, her dear brother, Jonathan (Amy) Pope of Blackshear and her cherished niece, Kelly (Alvin) Thrift of Waycross.
A celebration of Ms. Wiggins life will be held at 3 PM Sunday, November 6th, 2011 at the Camden County High School auditorium with Pastors’ John Jenkins and Vernon Dillingham presiding.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the foundation that will be named in honor of Tonya at a later date. Ameris Bank in Kingsland has an account titled Tonya Wiggins Memorial Fund for all donations to that foundation.
