Mr. Jimmy Carl Dowling, 65 of Woodbine, Ga. passed away early Monday, October 10th, 2011 at the Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center’s Brunswick campus.
Mr. Dowling was born in Ware County, Georgia on December 25th, 1945. He is the son of the late Darling Edward “Bud” and Mary Ann Brooker Dowling. Carl worked at the early age of 16 in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Waycross. He later moved to Camden County, where he was employed at Gilman Bag Plant in St. Marys. He was married to Betty Jean Thomas in Kingsland in 1961 and they have shared 44 years of life and love together. Carl next came to work at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base as a US Navy civil servant. There he eventually became supervisor of the pest control division, with over 30 years of service. Carl enjoyed fishing and was an avid collector of Civil War militaria and ephemera. His daughter said of him that he was a loving father who guided her and taught her right from wrong. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Dowling leaves behind his beloved wife, Betty J. Dowling of Woodbine; his cherished daughter, Melissa Ann Dowling of Woodbine; his dear siblings, Edna (Donnie) Sylvester of Kingsland, Gussie Pearson of Hoboken, JD Dowling of Browntown and Joe Dowling of Boulogne, Fl. and his numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Carl’s life will be held at 2pm on Saturday October 15th, 2011 at the Lighthouse Church of God in St. Marys with Pastor Bobby Woods presiding.
