Mrs. Davis was born in Blackshear, Ga on June 9th, 1927. She is the daughter of the late John Leon and Cora Bell Conner Dixon. Known as “Nanny” to many, she was a beloved housewife and mother for many years. Mrs. Davis was also a foster parent to numbers of children, giving them her love, attention and support. She was good with her hands, from canning, quilting, embroidering and sewing, to planting flower gardens. She loved to go to auctions, yard sales and flea markets, collecting dishes, butterflies and hummingbirds. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church in MacClenny, Fl. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her children, Joyce Higginbotham of Folkston, Kathie (Floyd) Burdette of Woodbine, and Ray (Judy) Canaday of Dahlonega, Ga; her sister, Grace (Fred) Woolard of Folkston; her brother, John Wesley (Ginger) Dixon of Mississippi; her sister-in-law, Sue Dixon of Folkston; her grandchildren, Patrick (Courtney) Canaday and Trampas (Susan) Canaday both of Gainesville, Ga, Rana (Kevin) Anderson of St. Marys, and Brian (Tina) Higginbotham of Folkston; her eight great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Mrs. Davis was preceded in passing by her beloved husband, Yulee Canaday; her sisters and their husbands, Alma Louise (Teddy) Canaday and Mattie Ruth (Lavone) Crews; and her brothers, James Zelton and Herman Dixon.
Calling hours for Mrs. Davis will be from 6 to 9 pm Tuesday, June 21st, 2011 at Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland. Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011 in Wainwright Chapel at the funeral home with Brothers Johnny Lee, Alvin Johnson, and Randy Strickland presiding. Pallbearers will be Leon Woolard, Will Woolard, Jamie Dixon, Floyd Edenfield, Dickie Dixon, David Dixon, Marty Crews, and Wallace Crews.
Interment will follow in Conner-Green Cemetery in Nassau County, Fl. near St. George.
