Frances Deane LaFoy, 54 of Kingsland passed away at her home in the early morning of Thursday, June 09, 2011, after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. Deane fought long and hard against the aggressive disease and always remained positive.
Deane LaFoy was born in Mobile, Alabama, July 13th, 1956. She was the daughter of Joseph Chapman and the late Mary McClinton Chapman. Deane entered into marriage with Scotty Franklin LaFoy on December 13, 1986 and they have shared life and love together for 25 years. Ms. LaFoy was a beloved educator. She received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alabama. She later graduated from Florida State University with a Master’s degree and then received her teaching certification through the University of South Alabama. Deane was working on her dissertation for her doctorial degree in special education. Deane was an avid supporter and advocate of special education and worked tirelessly to make sure all her student at St. Marys Middle School and Camden County High School were provided with the best opportunity to succeed. Deane believed in giving back to the community as an instructor and trainer, a water safety instructor, a swimming instructor, and head lifeguard at Camden Community Recreation Center. She will be greatly missed.
Frances Elizabeth LaFoy and David Scott LaFoy, both of Kingsland; her siblings, Jolayne Braswell of Robertsdale, Alabama, Edward and Thomas Chapman of Mobile, Alabama and Calvin Chapman of Hartselle, Alabama. Deane was also survived by four sister-in-laws, five brother-in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Catholic Church in St. Marys on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 9AM. Interment will be held at a later date in Alabama.
