Mrs. Gladys Virginia (Horne) Joyce, 82 of St. Marys, Ga. passed away quietly in the early hours of Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Senior Care Center in St. Marys.
Mrs. Joyce was born on December 24th, 1928 in the Greenville community of Browntown in Camden County, Ga. She is the baby daughter of the late Theodore and Emma Lou Saxton Horne. Mrs. Joyce was married to William Lonnie Joyce on November 15th, 1944. They lived, loved and raised their family together for 45 years until Mr. Joyce’s passing in 1989. They were motel owners and operators for many years. Mrs. Joyce was a staunch Republican and was a member of the Kingsland First Baptist Church. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Joyce is survived by her children, Shirley Ann (Daniel) Hardcastle of Fernandina Beach, Fl., William Donald (Kathy) Joyce of St. Marys and Marlon Thomas Joyce of Kingsland; her grandchildren, Stephanie (Jeff) Joyce-Potts of Baton Rouge, La.; Marty (Tonya) Joyce of Rapid City, SD, Robbie (Shannon) Nettles, Valinda (Bob) McKeon of Kingsland, Lonnie Paul Joyce of Kingsland, Kristen Leigh Joyce of Savannah, Emily Joy and Olivia Grace Marano of Kingsland; her 12 great grand children and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Joyce was also preceded in passing by her sisters Leila Brown and Vera Wiren and her brothers, Clifford, Morton and Clarence Horne.
Calling hours for Mrs. Joyce will be from 6 to 8 pm Friday, April 1st, 2011 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, April 2nd, 2011 in the old chapel of Kingsland First Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Dillingham and Pastor John Jenkins presiding. A committal service will be held in Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Kingsland First Baptist Church “Building Fund.”
