Mr. Carl Randolph Horne, 81 of Kingsland, passed away at the Hospice of the Golden Isles, late Sunday evening, January 9th, 2011.
Mr. Horne was born in Kingsland on September 11th, 1929. He is the son of the late Randolph and Beulah Groover Horne. Mr. Horne went to work early in his life with Gilman Paper Company and continued there giving over 46 years of service. He married Lucy M. Carter in 1951 and they have shared over 59 years together. It was said of Carl that either he liked you or he didn’t. He was that matter of fact, but would help you any way he could. He was a founder and one of the past presidents of the Mumford Island Hunting Club, where he was known as Red Eye. He loved running with his old hunting dogs, Ring and Roxie. The deer are resting a little easier now, since we’ll never get to make shoes by chewing deer hide. Mr. Horne was also an avid fisherman and was quoted as saying “You’re not fishing with no pumpkin roller” if he was catching more than you were. He was keen on Hank Williams music and felt his best times were those spent devoted to his wife and children. If he thought he’d made Lucy mad, he would stop and pick her flowers. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Horne will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Horne is survived by his devoted wife, Lucy M. Horne of Browntown; his daughters, Wanda (Dan) Ovshak of Jacksonville, Fl., and Glenda (Curren) Wynn of Blackshear; his sons, Dennis (Ann) Horne and Don (Kimberly) Horne both of Kingsland; his sisters, Willa Mae (Darryl) Dyal of Kingsland and Lucille Horne of Waycross; his grandchildren, Hacie (Robbie) Bladen, DeeDee (Chris) Carter, Brandon Horne, Carl Horne, Jr., Tyler Horne and Balaam Horne; and his great grandchildren, Baylee and Rylan Bladen.
Besides his parents, Mr. Horne is preceded in passing by his grandchildren Kori Wynn and Christopher Horne.
Calling hours for the Horne family will be from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, January 12th, 2011 at Rahamah Baptist Church in Kingsland with Pastor Bob Hughs and Walter Dowling presiding. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be the Satilla Lodge Hunting Club. A committal service will follow at Colesburg Cemetery in Woodbine.
