Mrs. Leila Horne Brown, 99 of Kingsland passed away Sunday, November 28th, 2010 after a short illness.
Mrs. Brown was born in Kingsland on September 7th, 1911. She is the daughter of the late Theodore and Emma Saxon Horne. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for about 70 years and sang in the choir for most of that time. She was involved in many of the church activities. She was very outgoing and never met a stranger. Her community involvements included PTA, The Women’s Club, American Legion and Eastern Star. Her favorite activities were traveling with groups, which she did extensively, and attending parties, especially for her birthday. She loved music, favoring gospel, to which she really enjoyed all night gospel sings. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her sons, Terry (Bernice) Brown of Kingsland and Larry (Jackie) Brown of Helena; her sister Gladys Joyce of St. Mary’s; her 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and her 5 great great-grandchildren; plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in passing by her husband, Nephi Jensen Brown, her son, Clayton Brown, her sister, Vera Wyren, and her brothers Clifford, Morton and Clarence Horne.
Calling hours for Mrs. Brown will be from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, December 1st, 2010 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM in the chapel of the Kingsland First Baptist Church with Pastor John Jenkins presiding. Pall bears will be her grandsons.
A committal service will follow in Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland.
