Ray Farrell Whitley, 74, of Woodbine passed away at Southeast Georgia Health System’s Brunswick Campus early Friday morning June 25th, 2010.
Mr. Whitley is a native of Muscogee County. He was born in Columbus, GA on June 24th, 1936 to the late Claude and Eunice Storey Whitley. He married Ruby Lee Bruce on June 1st, 1957 and they have shared over 53 years of life and love together. Mr. Whitley served his country in the United States Air Force for over 23 years. After retiring, he returned to school and earned a degree in heating and air conditioning. He continued his service to his country in a civilian capacity working at the Naval Submarine Base in Kings Bay as a control operator and systems operator for the nuclear submarine simulator. He also worked in the missile silos as a systems operator. He was an avid fisherman and loved to be outdoors. He also loved technology and his intelligence surpassed his years. He loved his wife very much and was truly a family man. Mr. Whitley will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Whitley is survived by his beloved wife, Ruby Lee Bruce Whitley of Woodbine; his daughter, Sharon (Gary) Eubanks of Ray City, GA; his sons, Larry (Hilda) Bruce of Hazelhurst, GA, Robert J. Bruce of Woodbine, and Danny (Rita) Whitley of Austin, TX; his sister, Nelliejean Cates of Marietta, GA; his brother, Jimmy Whitley of Columbus, GA; his seven grandchildren; and his six great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Sunday June 27th, 2010 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held in the Wainwright Chapel of the funeral home at 10 am, Monday June 28th, 2010 with Pastor Ed Davis presiding. Pallbearers will be Gary Eubanks, Larry Bruce, Danny Whitley, and Daniel Whitley. Interment will follow at Homeward Cemetery in Waverly, GA.
