Mrs. Sandra Thompson Pounds, 70 of the Harriett’s Bluff community passed away at her residence May 24th, 2010 after a courageous battle with COPD.
Ms. Pounds is a Wayne County, Georgia native. She was born in Jesup on December 15th, 1939 to the late Linton J. Thompson and Mary Pauline Batten Cockcroft. Mrs. Pounds was married to Raymond L. Pounds on April 5th, 1956 and they shared over 38 years together until his passing in 1994. They came to Camden County in 1965. While Mr. Pounds provided for the family, Mrs. Pounds took on the noble task of being a devoted wife, mother, and later, grand mother and great grand mother. Her life was equally dedicated to her family with both sternness and love. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Harriett’s Bluff until her declining health hindered her participation in recent years. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Ms. Pounds is survived by her daughter, Lisa (William) Whiddon and her son Terence Pounds, all of Harriett’s Bluff; her brother, Dean” Buddy” Thompson of Jesup; her grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Jones of Brunswick and Rodney Y. Odum, II and Rhae Ellen Odum both of Harriett’s Bluff, and her great grand children, Christopher and Dylan Jones of Brunswick, and Taj Odum of Fernandina Beach, Fl. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Pounds was also preceded in death by her sister, Cheryl Jean Brady.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm, May 29th, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Harriett’s Bluff with Reverend Scotty Langford presiding. A private family interment ceremony will be held afterwards.
