Bernadette Mary Cyr BrateMrs. Bernadette Mary Cyr Brate, 75, formerly of Reidsville, New York, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home, Sunday, April 25th, 2010 after a long illness.

Mrs. Brate was born and raised in Albany, New York. She and James Brate, Sr. were married on September 19th, 1968. Together they owned and operated the Clarksville Supermarket for many years. She was also employed at Indian Ladder Farms as an order assembler. She and James vacationed often in Florida. She enjoyed animals, gardening, and reading. Bernadette will be remembered by all for her wonderful laugh.

Mrs. Brate is survived by her husband of 41 years, James Brate, Sr. of Clarksville, NY; her daughters, Patricia Erickson of Kingsland, GA, Jacqueline (Ivar) Bauer of Summerville, SC, Joan Plunkett and Donna Martin both of Clarksville, NY; her sons, Albert Hunter, Jr. of Malta, NY, James Brate, Jr. of Ruskine, FL, George Brate of Dormansville, NY; her son-in-law, Brian Askew of Rotterdam, NY; her sister, Georgette Defoe of Rensselaer, NY; her brothers, Frederick Ingraham of Ravina, NY, and Wallace Ingraham of Castleton, NY; and her aunt, Fredeline Burleski of Mesa, AZ.; plus many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Brate was preceded in death by her daughter, Bernadette Askew.

Services for Mrs. Brate are planned for a later date. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
