Donald Eugene HunterMr. Donald Eugene Hunter, 71 of Brunswick, Ga. passed away at Sears Manor in Brunswick, Ga. early Saturday evening, February 20th, 2010.

Mr. Hunter is a native of Pierce County, Georgia. He was born in Blackshear on December 3rd, 1938 and is the son of the late James Floyd and Vida Miles Hunter. Mr. Hunter attended Camden County schools and later joined the US Army, seeing action in the Korean Conflict. After his military service, Mr. Hunter came back to Camden. He was employed by Gilman Paper Company and retired with 38 years of service. Mr. Hunter was an avid animal lover. He enjoyed writing, creating poetry and was a gifted guitar player. His focus was always on his mother and her welfare. He was a member of the St. Marys First Baptist Church joining when he was 12 years old. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Hunter is survived by his sisters, Carolyn (Hubert) Harper of Brunswick, and Jerilyn “Bo” (Franklin) Smith of St. Marys; and his nephews, Gerald Smith, Thomas W. Vickers, Dennis Smith, and Mark Smith. He is preceded in death by his father James and his mother, Vida who passed in December, 2009.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Monday, February 22nd, 2010 at the funeral home.

The funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday February 23rd, 2010 at the St. Marys First Baptist Church with Pastors’ Steven Kegley, Carl Barnhart, and David Lundin presiding. The casket bearers will be Gerald Smith, Thomas W. Vickers, and Dennis Smith.

Internment will follow in the Hunter plot at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the St. Marys First Baptist Church Building Fund.
