Mr. Rodney W. Sheffield, 64 of Kingsland passed away unexpectedly at his home, February 11th, 2010.
Mr. Sheffield was born in Jacksonville, Fl. on June 5th, 1945 and is the son of Wilbur Horace Sheffield and the late Louise McElroy Sheffield. Mr. Sheffield is a lifelong resident of Camden County and graduated from Camden County High School in 1963. He later attended Georgia Military College. On June 12th, 1965 he married Linda Lanier in the Kingsland First Baptist Church, where they both are both members. They have enjoyed life and love together for over 44 years. Few people in Camden County cared more about the history of the area or the people in its past. He was a passionate member and leader of many organizations in his life time, including the Lions Club, Camden Land Trust, Bryan Lang Library and the Guale Historical Society. He was a strong supporter of any historical endeavor and participated in the restoration of cemeteries, Burnt Fort Chapel, and Kingsland First Baptist Church. Rodney worked most of his life as a contractor and enjoyed many challenges of the business, as well as, the sense of accomplishment it brought to his life. He viewed many young people as adopted children and had many mentors counted amongst the colorful personalities of the area. Rodney loved his family.
Mr. Sheffield is survived by his beloved wife Linda L. Sheffield of Kingsland; his son, Mason West (Leslie) Sheffield of Conyers, Ga.; his sister Tracey S. (Blake) Sprhol of Texas; and his two granddaughters, Theron Elizabeth and Day Ann Sheffield of Conyers.
A private visitation will be held for the family.
The funeral service will be held 2 PM Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 graveside at Sheffield Cemetery with Pastor John Winnie and Travis Boyd presiding. Casket bearers will be Brent Green, Travis Boyd, Steve Lanier, Todd Lanier, Phil Nelson, Benny Simpson, Franklin Sheffield, Dale Johnson and Mason Sheffield.
