Clifford Colson PeeplesClifford Colson Peeples, 94, of the Harriett’s Bluff Community passed away Sunday afternoon, September 13th, 2009 at her residence surrounded by her beloved family.

Mrs. Peeples is a Camden County, Georgia native. She was born in Woodbine on February 1st, 1915 and is the daughter of the late Zack and Ester Sparkman Colson. She was a life-time resident of Camden County and has lived in Harriett’s Bluff Community for over 50 years. She was married to the late Albert Lee Peeples for 64 years. She was employed at Cabin Bluff in 1975 and retired from Cabin Bluff after having worked there for 20 years. She loved it so much that after her retirement, she continued to work at Cabin Bluff part-time.

She was a Charter Member of Harriett’s Bluff Baptist Church, which began in 1957. In 1962, she helped with the building of the Church sanctuary. She always enjoyed cooking meals for the men and women as they worked on the Church. She also cooked many cakes, many batches of blueberry muffins and bread pudding for them as they labored in God’s work. She loved her Church. She loved to grow flowers and often decorated the church with them. She served as the Church Treasurer and Church Clerk for many years. She taught Sunday school, Training Union and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed singing in the Choir. Among all the many hymns she loved to sing (Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, Victory In Jesus), her all-time favorite was “The Pearly White City.”

Big Mama, as her grandchildren called her, loved the holidays. She loved decorating and changing all the table cloths to match the seasons and holidays. She loved going to Jacksonville the day after Thanksgiving to begin her Christmas shopping during the biggest shopping day of the year. She usually shopped all day purchasing her gifts for Christmas! She always had her list in her pocket with items that she planned to buy. Mrs. Peeples was a lovely lady blessed with long life to enjoy and inspire her family. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Alberta Gay (Kenneth) and Delores McCollough (Edward) all of Woodbine; her son, Jack Peeples (Shirley) of Jacksonville, Fl.; her sister, Joyce Rinck of Millwood, Ga. and her brother Zack Colson of Mush Bluff; her grandchildren, Ken Gay (Sheila), Gennie Salter (John), Sylvia Stanley (Toby), Eddie McCollough (Julia) and Tracy Sweat. She has 10 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, Ga. with Pastor Paul Roberson presiding. The pallbearers will be Joseph E. McCollough, Jr., Joseph Lee McCollough, Douglas D. Stanley, Kenneth Gay, Jr., Kent Salter and Chris Gay.
