Mrs. Margaret Teresa Boffi JohannesenMrs. Margaret Teresa Boffi Johannesen, 88, of St. Marys passed away Saturday evening, July 11, 2009 at St. Marys Convalescent Center.

Mrs. Johannesen is a native of Richmond Hill (Queens), New York, where she was born on October 16, 1920 to the late Angelo and Kate Peter Boffi.

A graduate of John Adams High School, she received her nurse’s training from Kings County Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn. She did volunteer work with the Red Cross during WWII and spent the majority of her nursing career at Miami University (Ohio). After moving to Lake Wales, Florida, in 1973, she conducted blood pressure clinics in the fishing camps, served on the Women’s Auxiliary for the Lake Rosalie Volunteer Fire Department, and volunteered at the Care Center store.

Well known for her hospitality, she was an excellent cook and gracious hostess. An avid reader, she loved cross word puzzles. Devoted wife of Sidney Johannesen (deceased 1995), they shared a love of the water, sailing, and family.

Mrs. Johannesen is survived by her daughters, Arlene (Michael T.) Huber of St. Marys and Jo (Karl) Kontyko of Onsted, Michigan ; her five grand-children, Todd T. Hufford, Margaret B. Santefort, Amy C. Huber, Timothy E. Huber and Carl Kontyko; her seven great grand-children, Alex Hufford, Katlyn Hufford, Zachary Hufford, Luke Santefort, Megan Huber, Lianne Huber and Quin Kontyko; plus several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, John Boffi and her grand-son Jonathan M. Huber.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on August 21 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 2801 Frederica Road on St. Simons Island with Reverend Paul Elbert officiating.

A service, followed by inurnment, will take place at 10 am on August 14, 2009 in the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY, with the Reverend Joanne Bond officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 2801 Frederica Rd, St. Simons Island, GA 31522.
