Thomas Graye SilcoxMr. Thomas Graye Silcox, 76, of Kingsland, a beloved husband and father, passed away suddenly Monday afternoon, March 16th, 2009.

Mr. Silcox was a Duval County, Florida native. He was born in Jacksonville on January 11th, 1933 and is the son of the late Oscar Ray and Lelia Harnsburger Silcox. Mr. Silcox graduated from South Camden County High School in 1950. After high school he played football for South Georgia College. He later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1952 to fight against the Communist invasion of South Korea and rose to the rank of Lance Corporal. After his discharge in 1955, Mr. Silcox entered the University of Georgia where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Landscape Architecture in 1958. Afterwards he worked for the US Forestry Service and the US Army Corps of Engineers as a landscape architect. On May 10th 1959 he married his sweetheart of three years, Miss Diane Kelley and they have shared over 50 years of life and love together.

Mr. Silcox returned to school in Texas and earned his Masters Degree in Forestry from Stephen F. Austin University in 1968. Afterwards, he returned home as a Forester for the US Navy in charge of the Northeast Florida area of operations. Mr. Silcox many memberships include The American Legion, the Kingsland Masonic Lodge, a lifetime member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marine Corps League, and was a member of the Kingsland First United Methodist Church. He was a strong supporter of the Marine Corps Toys For Tots program and was an avid golfer and ranger for the Laurel Island Links Golf Course. His special and loving ways will be sadly missed by both family and friends.

Mr. Silcox is survived by his beloved wife Diane Silcox of Kingsland: his daughter, Deborah Anne (Terry) Chandler of Danielsville; his son, Craig Lee (Pamela Denise) Silcox of Hilliard, Fl.; his sister, Phyllis Ann (Jack) Morse of Thomasville; his brother, Ray Oscar (Mary Elizabeth) Silcox of Lake Park; his grandchildren, Robert Jack Chandler, USMC, Jennifer Michelle Chandler, Kimberly Lane Chandler, and Chase Allen Silcox; plus his nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be held Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, March 19th, 2009 at the Kingsland First United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Dupree presiding.

Interment will follow at 11:30 am in the Jacksonville National Cemetery with military honors.
