Arlington “Blue” Nettles

Arlington Blue NettlesArlington L. “Blue” Nettles, 74, of St. Marys passed away Friday evening March 6th, 2009 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville.

Mr. Nettles is a Charlton County, native. He was born in Folkston on December 29th, 1934 and is the son of the late Elbert and Laune Sikes Nettles. Mr. Nettles is a retired employee of the Gilman Paper Company of St. Marys. He loved to talk with people at the St. Mary’s dock and would spend time teaching youngsters how to cast net there. Mr. Nettles was an accomplished wood carver and was featured in many newspaper articles for his talent. He also was an avid collector and treasure hunter. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and adored his wife Shirley. He attended Victory Baptist Church in St. Marys and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Nettles is survived by his wife Shirley Jane Nettles of St. Marys; his daughters Sherry Jane Owens of Yulee, Fl., and Brenda Sue Burnsed of Taylor, Fl.; his sons, Ernie Nettles of Lakeland, Ga., George William Nettles ( Debra) of Kingsland, Leamon Crawford (Olivia) of Taylor, Fl., Clarence Joseph Crawford ( Debra) of MacClenny, Fl.; his grandchildren, Arlington, Jonathan, Joe, Jimmy, Tabitha, Tina, Tiffany, Lisa, Joseph, Simon, Terry, Daniel, Shannon, Shawna, Trannon, Gola, and Kelly, plus numerous great grandchildren. Beside his parents, Mr. Nettles is preceded in death by his sons John Nettles, Terry Lane Crawford and Davy Crawford.

The visitation was held from 7 to 9 PM Monday, March 9th, 2009 at Edo Miller Funeral Home Camden Chapel in Kingsland.

The Funeral service was held at 2 PM Tuesday, March 10th, 2009 at Victory Baptist Church in St. Marys with Pastors Ed Davis and Pat Deal presiding. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

Pallbearers will be Joe Leatherman, Joe Crawford Shannon Burnsed, Trannon Burnsed, Joe Nettles, Jonathan Nettles, Arlington Nettles and Terry Lane Crawford.
