Mattie Jamima Pittman, 83, of Woodbine, passed away Friday afternoon February 6th, 2009 at the South East Georgia Health Systems Brunswick Campus.
Mrs. Pittman is a Camden County native. She was born in Waverly on July 20th, 1925 and is the daughter of the late John Alexander and Martha Ann Clark Head. She graduated from Camden County High School and later married Carlton Pittman in 1948. They shared 38 years together until his passing in 1986. She was a fulltime mother and housewife. Her family shared that Mrs. Pittman was a woman with the biggest heart in the world and was willing to open her home to anyone. She was lovingly known as Ma to everyone. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Pittman is survived by her children; Kathy Griffin of Woodbine, Melissa (Keith) Lupin of Folkston, Linda Ruth (Herbert) Peeples of Yulee, Alex Pittman of Nicholas, Ronnie W. Pittman of Woodbine and Edwin Dillon (Sherri) Pittman of Woodbine; 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, plus several nieces and nephews. Beside her parents and her husband, Mrs. Pittman was predeceased by her siblings, Anniebelle Anderson, Ollie Taylor, Myrtle Horne, Harley Head and Alex Head.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Monday, February 9th, 2009 at the funeral home.
The funeral service will be held graveside at 2 PM Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 at Horse Stamp Cemetery in Waverly with Pastor Bob Hughes presiding. Honorary pallbearers will be Carlton Peeples, Keith Lupin, Ronald Griffin, Donavan Gatlin, Joey Peeples, Alex Pittman, Terry Pierce and Lance Peeples.
