Mary Ellen Herring, 88, of Harriett’s Bluff passed away peacefully Wednesday evening January, 28th, 2009 at Southeast Georgia Health System’s Camden Campus with her beloved family by her side.
Mrs. Herring is a native of Hampton County, South Carolina. She was born in Brunson on July 2nd, 1920 and is the daughter of the late Rog H. and Etheleen Brunson Stevenson. Mrs. Herring came to Camden County in the early 1940’s from Allendale, SC. She was married to Hilton Herring until his passing in 1979. Mrs. Herring retired as an inspector from Kraft Bag in 1975 with over 21 years of service. Her passions included cooking, baking, crocheting, travel and going to church. She was a member of the Harriett’s Bluff Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Her family spoke of her being a nurturing person who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Mrs. Herring will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Herring is survived by her daughters, Agatha Knight and Shelly (Charles) Miller all of Woodbine; her brother Leon Stevenson of Savannah; her grandchildren, Tammy K. (Danny) Bachhofer of Harriett’s Bluff, Rachael (Max) Drury, Marvin (Amy) Miller, Lesley (Richard) Hall, and Marian Clark all of Woodbine, and Mary Ann (Jeff) Thompson of Titusville,FL.;10 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; plus several nieces and nephews.
A visitation was held from 6 to 8 PM Friday, January 30th at the funeral home.
The funeral service was held graveside at 11 AM Saturday, January 31st at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys with Bennie Simpson and Terry Brown as honored speakers. The pallbearers were Marvin Miller, Danny Bachhofer, Ronnie Gay, Greg Stevenson, Donnie Bennett and Steven Miller.
