Mr. Bennie Lee Smith, 62, of Kingsland, passed away at his residence midday Saturday, October 18th, 2008, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Smith was a native of Pierce County, Georgia. He had been a resident of Camden County for over 30 years. He was born in Bristol, Georgia, on October 23rd, 1945. He is preceded in death by his parents Joe C. and Alma S. Smith, and his brother Bobby Smith.
Bennie worked as Public Works Director for the City of St. Marys for 18 years. He was a member of the Kings Bay Moose Lodge No. 2418. He enjoyed working outdoors with heavy equipment and tractors, gardening, and attending University of Georgia football games or cheering on the DAWGS from home. He was an “Honorary Cajun” and loved visiting his friends Mike & Pat Avery and eating Cajun food in Louisiana. He cherished spending time with his family and friends, especially his beloved grandchildren and his close friend “Peanut Butter”.
Mr. Smith is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa Smith of Kingsland; his daughter Alma Lee (Brian) Millard of San Antonio, Tx.; his son Scott (Angela) Williamson of Kingsland; his brother Levey (Pam) Smith of Blackshear; his grandchildren, Dalton Clark, Ashlianne Bokor, Cole Cahill, and Raegan Williamson; plus several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 21st, 2008.
The funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 22nd in the Kingsland First Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Thigpen presiding over the service. Eulogy will be given by Michael J. Fender. Casket bearers will be Pete Sloan, Brian Smith, Wayne Broxton, Danny Sikes, Craig Smith, and Pete Mercer.
Honorary bearers will be Jerald “Peanut Butter” Jacobs, Buddy Foskey, Russell Morgan Sr., Robert Thrift, Mark Crews, Robbie Nettles, Edward Souls, Johnny Harper, Teddy Howard, Butch Rhone, Ernesto Herrin, Frankie Williams, Bill Mitchell, and Roger Dyals.
Interment will follow in the Martha Memorial Methodist Church Cemetery in Bristol, Georgia.
