Mrs. Eda May Merkel, 69, of Folkston, Georgia passed away at Shands Medical Center Saturday afternoon October 11th, 2008.
Mrs. Merkel is a Delaware Co., Pennsylvania native. She was born in Chester on August 23rd, 1939 and is the daughter of the late Richard R. Morgan Sr. and Elizabeth Charlotte Vail Morgan. Mrs. Merkel was devoted to her family and in some instances worked three jobs to make ends meet. However, this did not deter her from being a doting and loving mother. She was the heart of their world and often did her best to ease their burdens. Eda was married to Michael Joseph Merkel on November 26th, 1988 and they shared almost twenty years of love together. She loved to garden and raise flowers, but had a passion for creating ceramics. Mrs. Merkel was a Protestant Christian. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Merkel is survived by her beloved husband, Michael J. Merkel of Folkston; her daughter Melissa (Rick) Weyfirth of Baltimore, Md.; her sons Francis Morgan (Tonya S. Hensley) Firlein of Homeland, and Robert E. (Emily) Rhoades of Nottingham, Pa.; her sisters, Florence Harding of Delaware, Betty Weikert of N. C. and Annette Houle of N.C., her brothers, Richard R. Morgan, Jr. of Pa., Albert Morgan of N.C. and Ray Morgan of Mich.; ten grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, plus several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private funeral ceremony was held at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at the Edo Miller Chapel with Pastor Elliot Foss presiding at the service.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 5851 St. Augustine Rd. Jacksonville, FL, 32207 in her honor.
