Walter Jones Sasser, Jr

Walter Jones Sasser, Jr., 78, of St. Mary’s, passed away at Appling County Health Center, Friday July 18th, 2008.

Mr. Sasser is a native of Ware County, Georgia. He was born in Waycross on June 26th, 1930. He was the son of the lates Walter Jones and Martha Ellen Bowen Sasser. Mr. Sasser attended high school in Ware County until he joined the Merchant Marines. He was also a member of the US Navy and the US Army Air Corps. Later, he earned his GED. He was married to Donna Sue Maher Sasser for 41 years until her passing in 2003. During his life time, Mr. Sasser was involved with ship building, construction and other like interests. He worked with Benders Ship Yard in Alabama and Desco Marine in Florida. He also worked on construction sights as a foreman through out the southeast. Mr. Sasser earned his pilots license. His family and friends delighted in his colorful ways. He will be sadly missed by all.

Mr. Sasser is survived by his daughter and son in law, Betty Sue and Kent A. Sandy, of Mobile, AL; his son, Walter J. “Bo” Sasser, III, of Jesup; his sisters, June Parker, of Charlotte, NC, Jo Dotson, of Clayton; his grandchildren, Patrick Blake, in Iraq, Damien Pederson, Waycross, Donna Kay and Ashley-Brook Culbreath, of St. Augustine; and his great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Cambria, and Barbara Kay plus several nieces and nephews. Mr. Sasser was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Sue Sasser; his sisters, Nancy Brady, Martha Blount, and Harriett Parker; and his brother, Bowen Sasser.
